Though it had been less than five months since our October ‘19 Summit, CES was ready to go again with our first peer-reviewed conference event. Cryptoeconomic Systems ‘20 took place in Boston on March 7-8, 2020, and was held in cooperation with USENIX, the advancing computing systems association. We gratefully acknowledge sponsorship from the Web3 Foundation, Calibra (now Novi), and Cooley LLP. Huge additional thanks goes to the MIT Bitcoin Club for hosting us alongside the 7th annual MIT Bitcoin Expo!
One primary goal of CES ‘20, as always, was to complement the technical areas of cryptography, protocol engineering, and distributed systems with insights from the domains of economics, law, complex systems, and philosophy. Ultimately, we hope that Cryptoeconomic Systems is the first step towards crystallizing a mature and communal scholarly ecosystem.
CES ‘20 also served as pioneering experiment into interdisciplinary peer review. Based on the feedback of reviewers and ensuing discussions with the editorial team, we selected 26 papers from 80 submissions for CES ‘20. We employed four outcome types with different pathways to publishing in the journal, ranging from an acceptance into Cryptoeconimc Systems to an invitation to develop the work further and submit as an Essay or Comment.
Accepted papers for Cryptoeconomic Systems ‘20 were presented at the conference, and a small number will appear in Volume 1, Issue 1 of Cryptoeconomic Systems.
